I would think with CLOS and MOP power we could get this ported/implemented in Common Lisp?

Trivial for Lisp. Cf. this message, for instance, how this kind of thing is implemented without any hype. You must implement a Command pattern for all your operations on your data objects and READ/PRINT those (or similar commands).

From what I read in c.l.l. serializing objects to disk and back again is not trivial?
